What Is A Life Coach and Who Needs One?

Image
Hey, I’m Tracey. I’m a life coach who focuses specifically on your mindset- the POWER  of your mind! And the story of the starfish. Do you know the story of the starfish?  You're walking along the beach after a major storm and there are hundreds, HUNDREDS, of starfish washed up on shore. They’re going to die. They can’t get back into the ocean.  And as you’re walking, you look and you see a lady coming up the beach towards you and she bends down and throws something back into the ocean. Bends down again and throws it into the ocean. A little bit further, bends down and throws it into the ocean. And as you get closer, you see that she’s bending down and picking up a starfish and throwing it into the ocean.  And you get up to her and you go,  “Lady, what are you thinking?  There are hundreds of starfish out on the beach. You’re NEVER gonna make a difference!” She bends down  and she picks up another starfish  and she throws it in the ocean  and says,  “I made a difference to THAT one

How To Make A Change In Your Life

Image
How many life coaches does it take to change a light bulb? Only one but the light bulb has to REALLY want to change!  [laugh track] Change can be hard but- no worries-  I have seven tips to help you make the changes you want to make. Number one- evaluate what you need . Think it through, don't just expect it to magically happen. Stop and think about what are the things you're going to need. Let’s use my daily yoga practice as an example.   When I first decided that I wanted to exercise everyday, I thought through what will I need? Well, I’ll need a yoga mat. I will need some yoga blocks. I don’t have to have special clothes but, let's be honest, that makes it a lot more fun. I also need a yoga program. So I went through and thought- let me go find my yoga mat.  Let me buy the blocks that I need, let me get my clothes together. Let me find the yoga program. Pick out which classes I want to do . So I evaluated what I needed and I got it together. Tip n

The Power of a Word

You’ve heard the saying. Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me. Well, bull.   Words hurt. Words have power. They have tremendous impact but here's the good news. They only have the power that we let them have and we get to decide that in our own brains.  Let’s talk more about that. Back in 2015, the Dove company ran an advertising campaign they called #ChooseBeautiful. They went to 5 different cities and, in front of the doors of an office building, they had 2 doors. One door had a sign that said “BEAUTIFUL” over it. The other door had a sign that said “AVERAGE”. So they filmed women making the choice about which door to go through.  Now some of them just popped right on in, they weren’t even paying any  attention to the doors. Other women, you could see them standing and studying, “Hmmm, beautiful. Average.” And you could watch the wheels turn and then the body language of head slumping forward and shoulders slumping and most of th

Mental Hygiene - Let's Call it "Brain Washing"

Let’s talk about all the different things you can do to take care of your mind. I believe that, as human beings, we have the privilege and the responsibility to take care of ourselves. To take care of ourselves physically and to take care of our brains. We all have a beautiful brain and there’s just a lot of things that we can do to take care of our mindset. I’ve talked before about the things you can do to take care of your physical brain. Eating right, getting good rest, good sleep, being out in nature, getting exercise, good food-. All of those things are important for your physical brain. But let’s talk about our mindset. One of my family’s favorite quotes, because we hear it so much from each other, is Henry Ford’s quote: Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right. That’s how important your mindset is. What you believe, how you talk to yourself. I’m just gonna assume that you talk to yourself like I do. I talk to myself (laughs). There’s the old joke th
